French Press Guide

Things You’ll Need:

  • French Press (4 Cup)

  • Scale*

  • Grinder (We Can Pre-Grind your Orders)

  • Kettle

  • *30g Big Black Coffee

  • Filtered Water (~450g)

  • Timer

  • Mug

How to Brew:

Grind: Coarse
Time: 4 Minutes

  1. Fill Kettle with enough Filtered Water to brew & bring the water to ~205˚F (Just Off Boil).

  2. Weight out 30g of Big Black Coffee & Grind COARSE following the instructions of your Grinder.

  3. Place French Press on top of your Scale and Tare to Zero.
    Add the Ground Coffee to your French Press, tapping to make sure all of the coffee grounds are sitting flat.

  4. Tare to Zero again. Set the Timer for 4 minutes.
    When ready, start the Timer and gently pour ~450g of water in a circular motion & make sure there are no dry grounds.

  5. Place the lid of the French Press back on top to prevent heat loss, but do not push the press down.

  6. Once 4 minutes have passed, firmly push the press handle to guide the metal filter all the way down.
    DO NOT PRESS TOO QUICKLY.

  7. Immediately Pour all of the Coffee into Mugs or a Carafe to avoid Over Extraction.

  8. Enjoy your Big Black Coffee.

Pro Tip:
Skim off foam before plunging for a cleaner cup. Make sure to time your slow, circular stirring as to not over agitate the grounds.
